Our Story: A Lifelong Friendship Turned Creative Collective

Mosaic Market is the result of a dream that grew out of decades of friendship.

My business partner, Derith Armbruster, and I have known each other since we were 10 years old.

Over the years, we spent countless weekends shopping together, always drawn to boutiques filled

with unique, handcrafted, and whimsical items. We would often find ourselves saying, “We could make something like this,” or imagining how we might create a space that felt even more personal and meaningful.

What started as casual conversations eventually became something much bigger.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, both of us were working in healthcare during one of the most stressful seasons of our careers. Around that time, an opportunity came up to rent a small vendor booth inside a Fort Worth mercantile. What seemed like a simple side project quickly became a creative outlet and much-needed escape from the challenges we were facing every day.

Some months, that little booth barely made enough money to cover the rent, but it gave us something even more valuable. It confirmed how much we loved creating, sourcing, and curating items that brought joy to people. It also gave us the confidence to dream bigger.

Eventually, we decided to take a leap of faith and purchase a storefront in downtown Arlington.

The journey was far from easy. Renovations stretched nearly a year as we worked through permitting challenges, struggled to find contractors, and discovered asbestos that required us to take the building all the way down to its cinderblocks. It was costly, stressful, and at times overwhelming.

Looking back, though, that setback became an opportunity. Starting from the ground up allowed us to intentionally design a space that reflected our vision. In March 2024, Mosaic Market officially opened its doors as a collective space that supports and showcases local artists, makers, and small businesses.

At the heart of it all is our friendship.

We like to say there are different kinds of friends: 5K friends, 10K friends, and marathon friends. Marathon friends are the people who stay beside you for the long journey, through every season of life. That's exactly who we are to each other, and that bond has been one of the greatest strengths of our business.

For anyone considering entrepreneurship, my advice is simple: don't wait for the perfect moment. If you do, it may never come. Take the leap, seek out resources like the Small Business Administration and your local chamber of commerce, and remember that you don’t have to do it alone.

Most importantly, don’t let fear stop you from pursuing an idea that excites you.

When I think about the legacy I hope Mosaic Market leaves in downtown Arlington, the answer is simple:

Joy. Hard stop.
